CHAPTER SIX: IN THE TOWN OF TERROR (Page 102-118)

Chapter Summary:

Tien Pao was very optimistic about this day as he would be heading towards Hengyang after their work during afternoon. During their work, they found no Japanese at all so Tien Pao could go earlier.

As usual, the road was busy with trucks. Tien Pao was a bit shocked as he saw Hengyang on fire. He was now all by himself after the guerrilla chief helped him cross the Japanese territory. Now, it was a long journey until he reaches Hengyang. When he reached, he was in an unknown part. He was searching where the river is. All the people were running as Hengyang was on fire. One poor lady tried to take Glory-of-the-Republic with her as she was very hungry but Tien Pao didn’t allow. Instead, she wanted to be with him and escape Hengyang as both of them couldn’t trace their families.

Luckily, they had enough money as the poor lady had already stolen lots of money from someone. They were in the loaded train where there was no place to sit, even on the roof! Tien Pao didn’t feel safe at all with the lady. Suddenly, he was rescued by a Chinese soldier who felt pity for him. He gave Tien Pao and Glory-of-the-Republic sitting spaces. The train was heading backwards because the train was driver-less as the driver was shot by a Japanese soldier. Rather than escaping, they were going towards the Japanese.
