Tien Pao’s
experience tells me how deadly the war actually was. Before reading this book,
I thought The Second Sino Japanese war was not so influential and memorable to
human life as very few people recognized it. This might be because this war
happened during World War II and people only cared about the big picture. After
reading this book, I felt how struggling it was to live in a country with war
in it. They starved for weeks after weeks and it was unfair for them that
Japanese were invading their motherland. After reading this book, I looked at
stats and it showed that The Second Sino-Japanese War was the deadliest Asian
War In 20th Century with 1.77 million people dying in the span of 8
years. This is a very big amount considering China’s population was just 2.5
million at that time. In the
other way, I also feel sad for Japan as many people died in the Hiroshima &
Nagasaki bombings. The number was not as significant as it effected them
economically. Based on my
prior knowledge, Japan was backed by the Nazis (Germans), but this was
something the story didn’t include.
